Nemin.io Freelancer Hourly Rate Calculator
The Nemin.io Freelancer Hourly Rate Calculator asks for five things: target annual income, yearly business expenses, billable hours per week, working weeks per year and a tax buffer percentage.
The formula
- Annual billable hours = billable hours per week × working weeks
- Required yearly revenue = (target income + expenses) ÷ (1 − tax buffer)
- Suggested hourly rate = required yearly revenue ÷ annual billable hours
Worked example
A designer wants $60,000 a year, spends $8,000 on software and equipment, can bill 25 hours a week for 46 weeks and sets a 25% tax buffer.
- Billable hours: 25 × 46 = 1,150 hours
- Revenue needed: $68,000 ÷ 0.75 = $90,666.67
- Hourly rate: $90,666.67 ÷ 1,150 = $78.84 an hour
What to watch
Billable hours drive this result the most. Admin, sales and unpaid revisions don’t count, so 25 billable hours from a 40-hour week is realistic for many freelancers. The tax buffer grosses up the total revenue rather than adding a flat percentage, which is the correct way to make sure the after-tax amount still covers your target.
Nemin.io Agency Retainer Calculator
The Nemin.io Agency Retainer Calculator takes hours per month, hourly rate, monthly software or tool costs and your desired profit margin.
The formula
- Base delivery cost = (hours × hourly rate) + software costs
- Suggested retainer = base delivery cost ÷ (1 − desired margin)
- Target profit = retainer − base delivery cost
Worked example
An agency plans 40 hours a month at $75 an hour, with $300 in tools, and wants a 30% margin.
- Base cost: (40 × $75) + $300 = $3,300
- Retainer: $3,300 ÷ 0.70 = $4,714.29 a month
- Profit: $1,414.29, which is 30% of the retainer
What to watch
The margin here is a share of the final price, not a markup on cost. A 30% margin equals roughly a 43% markup. If you simply added 30% to $3,300, you would charge $4,290 and earn only about a 23% margin. Note too that the hourly rate you enter is your delivery cost per hour, so profit sits on top of it.
Nemin.io Social Media Pricing Calculator
The Nemin.io Social Media Pricing Calculator uses the number of platforms, posts per week, short videos or reels per month, monthly ad spend managed and a reporting level (basic, standard or advanced).
The formula
Unlike the two tools above, this one uses fixed prices built into the site:
- Content fee = $220 base + $140 per platform + $45 per weekly post + $85 per reel + reporting ($75 basic, $150 standard, $280 advanced)
- Ad management fee = 12% of ad spend managed, with a $150 minimum (zero if you manage no ad spend)
- Monthly fee = content fee + ad management fee
Worked example
Three platforms, 5 posts a week, 4 reels a month, $1,000 of ad spend and standard reporting:
- Content fee: $220 + $420 + $225 + $340 + $150 = $1,355
- Ad management: 12% of $1,000 is $120, so the $150 minimum applies: $150
- Monthly fee: $1,505
What to watch
“Posts per week” counts the same post once, not once per platform. The fixed dollar amounts reflect one view of the U.S. market, so treat the result as a starting price and adjust for your experience level and niche.
Nemin.io Profit Margin Calculator
The Nemin.io Profit Margin Calculator needs only revenue and total cost.
The formula
- Profit = revenue − cost
- Profit margin = profit ÷ revenue × 100
- Markup on cost = profit ÷ cost × 100
Worked example
A project brings in $15,000 and costs $5,000. Profit is $10,000, the margin is 66.67% and the markup is 200%. The same deal gives two very different-looking percentages, which is why it pays to know which one a client, partner or lender is asking for.
Nemin.io Break-Even Calculator
The Nemin.io Break-Even Calculator takes fixed costs, selling price per unit and variable cost per unit.
The formula
- Contribution margin per unit = price − variable cost
- Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ contribution margin, rounded up to a whole unit
- Break-even revenue = break-even units × price
Worked example
Fixed costs of $6,000 a month, a selling price of $50 and a variable cost of $20 per unit give a contribution of $30 per unit. You need to sell 200 units, or $10,000 in revenue, each month to break even.
What to watch
If the variable cost is equal to or higher than the price, the calculator shows 0 units. That doesn’t mean you break even immediately. It means you can never break even at that price, because each sale loses money.
